WINE ACCESS REVIEWS
Menetou-Salon is small, less well known appellation not far from Sancerre. This is a dry, mid-weight, rather reserved young sauvignon blanc with peppery, guava and herbal flavours. It's is not a zesty, lip-smacking example, rather, it's a bit waxy in texture, with some elegance and very good length. Green pepper and nettle dominates the finish. Very good lenght.
Tasted March 2013. Note 87
John Szabo, MS
This is a MENETOU-SALON with significant depth and richness, from evidently low-yielding vines. The palate is dense and fullish, with lots of mineral character linked to a distinct herbal pyrazine note. Very good length - a solid value.
Tasted March 2013. Value rating: *** - Note 90

FESTIVE WINES CHOICES
...I have picked out three must-have whites this Christmas. the first isn't the cheapest but its one loveliest Sauvignon Blancs I have had all year. Domaine Chavet et Fils, Menetou-Salon 2007 (10.25 from Stone, Vine & Sun www.stonevine.co.uk) is a fantastically elegant wine with a delicious rich, mineral and lime palate.

DOMAINE CHAVET, MENETOU-SALON 2007
Menetou-Salon sits in the shadow of its neighbour, Sancerre, yet produces some lovely sauvignon blanc in a similar steely, refreshing, aromatic mould. The appellation is often better value than its more famous neighbour. This one is really quite moreish with an attractive citrus and stone fruit freshness and medium weight. Just a hint of soft fruit sweetness rounds out the acidity.
THE spectator "Menetou-Salon is one of my favorite appellations. It's a Sauvignon Blanc from the area next to Sancerre, and has many of the same charactéristics. I happen to enjoy them slightly more; there's a richness to this 2006 from the Domaine Chavet which I find extremely appealing. Like the price: not having the world renown of the Sancerre label they have to charges less, which is our gain." SIMON HOGGART
THE TIMES Our MENETOU-SALON white was quoted in first position in the "Top 100 Summer Wines" ranking of June 10, 2006. "Not a great run of sauvignon from the Loire here, so thank goodness for French specialists Stone, Vin & Sun's stand-alone offering. Menetou-Salon is a Sancerre satellite, but delivers sauvignons that are a shade lighter than the original. What you get here is delicate, leafy green sauvignon fruit with a fine floral finish that makes an ideal aperitif or restrained first-course wine.
THE GUARDIAN Our MENETOU-SALON white was ranked among the "Top 40 wines in the world under £10" and received a silver medal. September 12, 2004.
HACHETTE GUIDE TO FRENCH WINES 2007 "The Chavet family grow wine together in their estate and practice sustainable farming. The deep purple colour [of the red wine] reveals lighter violet shades. It has a main nose of red berries ; together with touches of vanilla and roasting. Supple at first, the tanin is eventually revealed in the mouth; it finally becomes harmoniously balanced.
We awarded the white 2005 with a star and the rosé is referenced here.
CUISINE BY CYRIL LIGNAC (MAY-JUNE 2007) Our MENETOU-SALON White 2005 is referenced among the three wines selected by Sophie Levêque, a wine waitress and collaborator to Cyril Lignac, the famous French chef.
HACHETTE GUIDE TO FRENCH WINES 2006
"This estate is well-known to the guide's readers. In 2004, the white wine has attracted most of the jury members. A nose, enhanced by fruity scents (grapefruit, orange), gives way to a mouth which at first is sensitive to the tenderness and softness of the taste before becoming lively and persistant. This balanced wine sould either be served as soon the guide is launched or a year later. This guide also refers to the red and the rosé of the same vintage, the first for its nice fruity taste, the latter for its intensity."
LE JOURNAL DU NORD(from Quebec) MENETOU-SALON WHITE 2004 "Pale gold with green reflexions. Very aromatic with, let's say, pure features. in the mouth, its generous flesch as well as its lively volume are revealed. Together with a structured balance and an adaptated gustative persistance (indeed, the feeling of body and unity are a succès) the result is fairly attractive. We want more!"
